charlotte’s premier remodeling company can transform your new house into a home!

Did you recently purchase a new house in the Charlotte area? We all know that there is no perfect house. Therefore it is inevitable that there are home remodeling projects that need to be done. Kolby Construction, Charlotte’s premier remodeling company can transform your house into the perfect home for you and your family.

The newly remodeled kitchen features white shaker cabinets, quartz countertops, stainless appliances, with matte black hardware, lighting, and range hood. We also added new hardwood flooring to match the rest of the home. New recessed can lighting was also added to give the kitchen more light.

When this house was purchased, it had a multipurpose room (on the left) with several door openings that lacked privacy. Our team enlarged the opening from the kitchen into the new wine/coffee room, while closing off the door opening that now leads to the newly created owner’s suite. Hardwood flooring stained in Minwax dark walnut was also added to this room to match the rest of the home.

The bathroom is by far one of the most important remodeling projects homeowner’s want completed when they buy a new house. Pictured above this secondary bathroom was dated, dark, dirty, and lacked storage. Classic subway tile, a larger vanity with ample storage, and matte black accents transform the bathroom.

Basement Remodeling: Work with charlotte’s premier Basement Remodeler!

Kolby Construction is Charlotte’s premier basement remodeler. Do you have a lower level in your home just waiting to be transformed? Many of us have this untapped square footage in need of design and finishing. Our skilled team can help turn this into office space, second living quarters, media rooms, the possibilities are endless!
There are a few important design and structural issues that must be addressed correctly in order to meet today’s building codes. Whether your house was built in the mid-century or relatively new construction, let’s consider a few important ideas.
Firstly, the entrance and stairway leading to your basement must meet the proper headroom height and stair riser height minimums/maximums! No one wants to squeeze into a stairway and duck their head to get down to the lower level. North Carolina Building code requires a minimum of 6′ 8″ in headroom. The riser height must not exceed 8 1/4″. Steep stairs and low headroom make you feel like you are going to a dungeon!
Design Tip #1: Try to make the entrance to the lower level inviting and an extension of the rest of the home. Open stairs allow the lower level to feel just like another level. If you do have a door at the top of the stairs, consider using a french door to allow light and flow from one level to the next.

Design Tip #2: Flooring in the lower level should complement the other living areas of your home. With the creation of new luxury plank flooring, the lower level can look like hardwoods while having the convenience of water proof flooring.
Another important structural item that needs to be carefully considered is in basement bedrooms! If you want a true bedroom in your lower level, the room not only needs to have a closet, but also the properly sized egress window. North Carolina building code requires that the opening of an egress be equal or greater than 5.7 square feet, with a minimum opening height of 24 inches, and a minimum opening width of 20 inches.
Design Tip #3: Natural light in a lower level will absolutely make the space feel more like an extension of the rest of the house. So those egress windows serve dual purposes!
So, if you have that lower level in need of design and finishing, give the skilled team at Kolby Construction Company a call to get started! We can transform your basement space into the square footage you need and want. Kolby Construction is Charlotte’s premier basement remodeler!

A kitchen remodel is a big undertaking, and at Kolby Construction we can help guide you through the process with seamless execution. Let’s take a look at a few of our latest farmhouse kitchen remodels and discuss the process. . .

1. Smaller budget kitchen

Smaller kitchen remodel with white shaker base cabinets and a real farmhouse feel with open cedar shelving. Our clients chose a granite for the main countertop area, but a rustic butcher block top for the island.

In this kitchen remodel, the budget was smaller, so the clients chose to use less cabinetry, and complete the modern farmhouse design with open cedar shelving. A stainless farmhouse sink completes the look with matching brushed nickel hardware and stainless appliances. Granite countertops run through the main area, with a fabulous butcher block island. The house has a large walk-in pantry to house the household essentials.

2. Industrial Farmhouse Reno on a medium size budget

Check out a few before pics of this one:

In this medium range kitchen renovation we needed to create a more open concept and enlarge the kitchen as much as possible. Therefore the opening to the dining room was enlarged, the refrigerator was recessed into the closet that was removed to make way for the refrigerator. Then the opening to the den/wine/coffee room was enlarged and a breakfast bar added.

We installed beautiful white shaker cabinets, matte black hardware and a matte black range hood. As a result, the matte black lighting fixtures against the Sherwin Williams Pure White walls really pop! A stainless farmhouse sink, white quartz countertops, and beautiful new hardwood floors stained in Provincial complete the beautiful kitchen reno. Then the

3. Farmhouse kitchen remodel larger budget

Our clients in this kichen remodel love to cook and entertain. And, shiplap was a big priority in the kitchen design. A nice mix of white shaker cabinets with a gray island, matte black hardware, and a beautiful marble look quartz tie the modern farhouse design together. The custom built range hood is adorned with shiplap and stained cedar to match the newly installed hardwood floors. This kitchen is a true chef’s kitchen complete with a beautiful Wolf gas range.
